All classes are taught on a 16–class semester basis. You may join most classes after a semester starts and class fees will be pro–rated based on start date.

Music Theory and Musicianship for Younger Students
Instructor: Walter Zooi
Wednesdays 4:00 – 4:55 pm

Open to students ages 7 through 10. Students learn the foundations of music theory including note reading, rhythm, ear–training and phrasing. The class is presented with a fun, activity–based curriculum that emphasizes performance. This class is an excellent compliment to private instruction.
Minimum class size: 4, maximum: 8.

Music Theory and Musicianship
Instructor: Marcel Carmago
Tuesdays 5:00 – 5:55 pm
16 sessions/$245, SPMCC Students $230
Open students 10 and older. This class emphasizes note reading /sight reading, ear training, rhyt hmic accuracy and basic harmonic and scale theory. Students will learn these essential concepts in a dynamic experiential small class setting. This class is an excellent compliment to private instruction.
Minimum class size: 4, maximum: 7.

Chamber Ensemble
Instructor: Jessica Pierce
Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:25 pm
16 sessions/$245, SPMCC Students $230
Open to intermediate to advancing SPMCC string, wind and percussion students and by audition. The SPMCC Chamber Ensemble will greatly enhance students’ enjoyment and experience in music while deepening crucial musicianship and listening skills. Students will play selections from important classical and modern music repertoire throughout the semester
and will present a gala concert at the conclusion of the semester.

String Chamber Ensemble

Open to intermediate to advanced string students of SPMCC and by
audition. The String Chamber Ensemble focuses on challenging pieces and passages from the classical repertoire as well jazz and world music. Core musical concepts such as phrasing, sectional playing, intonation and performance techniques will be emphasized. This is an SPMCC ambassador ensemble and offers numerous performance opportunities.

Guitar Ensemble
Instructor: Almer Imamovic
Wednesdays 7:30 – 8:25 pm

Open to SPMCC students and by audition. Led by Almer Imamovic, world– renowned guitarist and Artistic Director of the South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory. This ensemble is a fun and exciting way to expand musicianship and technical ability while interacting and performing with others. The ensemble plays music from the classical repertoire as well as unique jazz and world music arrangements. This is an SPMCC ambassador ensemble and offers numerous performance opportunities.

Flute Choir

Open to SPMCC students and by audition. Led by acclaimed flutist and SPMCC master teacher Jessica Pierce, the SPMCC Flute Choir is unique for providing f lutists an important and exciting ensemble opportunity. Students play classical and popular music arranged for ensemble, develop musicianship by learning to play together. This is an SPMCC ambassador ensemble and offers numerous performance opportunities.

Master Lessons

SPMCC Master Teacher Program
South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory offers the opportunity to study at an advanced and rigorous level through our master teacher program. Master teachers have achieved exemplary professional status, posses a Master’s degree or above, and have been teaching for SPMCC four or more years. Students studying in our master teacher program receive 45–minute lessons and a monthly master class /performance seminar. Master track students are strongly encouraged to take Music Theory and relevant ensemble classes as well.

Payment Options for Private Lessons
We offer three convenient payment options for private music lessons:
Parents, siblings or friends can study together for an additional $5 per lesson.
Half-Hour Private Lessons
Semester Series (16 ½ hour lessons): $400 ($25 per lesson)
  8 Lesson Series:   $216  ($27 per lesson)
  4 Lesson Series:    $116  ($29 per lesson)
One Hour Private Lessons
  Semester Series (16 1-hour lessons):    $800 ($50 per lesson)
  8 Lesson Series:   $416 ($52 per lesson)
  4 Lesson Series:   $216 ($54 per lesson)
Payment Options for Master Lessons
45-Minute Master Lessons
  8 Lesson Series:   $440 ($55 per lesson)
  4 Lesson Series:    $220 ($55 per lesson)

Fees are due before a lesson series begins and must be renewed at before the last lesson in a series.

For your convenience, lessons can be auto-billed to your credit/debit card. There is a one-time $30 registration fee.

A late fee of $10 will added for each lesson paid late.

Absences/Cancellations
To cancel a lesson call South Pasadena Music Center at least 24 -hours in advance of the scheduled lesson or by informing the SPMC&C staff, NOT the instructor.

Students are permitted two cancellations per 4-month lesson period. Students will be charged at the third cancellation and for each cancellation thereafter.

Students will be charged for cancellations made the same day as their scheduled lesson, however we can make exceptions of this policy for sudden illness/injury.

Lateness
Students who arrive late to their lesson will be given the remainder of their allotted lesson time.

SPMC&C Cancellations, Etc.
If South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory cancels a lesson due to teacher illness or other contingency, you will be notified in advance and not be charged for the lesson.

If a teacher is late for a lesson, you will receive your full lesson time.

Our instructors are top musicians who are active in their professional fields of endeavor.  Although we make every effort to provide consistency in instruction, occasionally our instructors have a engagements and may be unavailable to teach a specific lesson. In these cases we will provide a well-qualified substitute instructor from our staff.

Payment for Classes
Classes are all on a semester basis (16 classes per semester).  Fees per class are listed in this bulletin with class descriptions.

Fees are due in full prior to attending the first class.

Fees will be pro-rated for those registering after the semester starts.

Cancellation Policy for Classes
All classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollments. No refunds after the first class day. There is a $25 processing fee for cancellations or program changes later than three weeks before session start date.  Full refunds for any sessions cancelled by South Pasadena Music Center.
